MS Versus Apple - Take 102
Whilst Apple may well be done with ripping on Microsoft, it seems the Seattle giant isn't about to stop the debate as they have added a brand new section to the windows 7 user page, which compares what you get from a Mac and what you get with a PC.
Four years on from the start of the PC bashing campaign by Apple, Microsoft has finally got wise and has decided to fight fire with fire using PC components to demonstrate their opinion that windows based PC's offer far more than a Mac does. It cites, correctly, the lack of Blu-ray player and TV tuner for the Mac as well as pointing out it can't even cope with a memory stick reader. The Mac doesn't have 3G wireless (built in) yet either, so it makes sense to major some of these points from Microsoft's standpoint.
Now whilst all of this is undoubtedly true, we also know that in terms of computer hardware, the Mc is at least equipped with Intel CPU's these days, so unsurprisingly there is no mention of this, but Microsoft do labour the point about video game software not being available for the Mac. Whilst broadly true, it has to be said that Mac users have been given more and more gaming software in recent years, even old favourites like Counter Strike Source got a revamp last month so they would work on a Mac natively, so perhaps this part is a moot point.
We also have to remember that Microsoft makes a version of Office for the Mac, so they don't dismiss the machine completely...
When you look at the page, its clear the PC comes out on top, but we arent even measuring against the things a Mac does do exceptionally well. Clearly, from the page, if you want something that is fun, media rich in terms of playback and allows you to surf youtube, then you'll be off to view a range of Desktop PCs But if you have only business in mind, particularly graphic design, web design or hardcore movie editing, then a Mac would be your best friend.
Is this any different to how its always been, we think not, so its an odd move by Microsoft to feel the need to point all of this out to us, perhaps they are scared of the in roads to the market being made by Apple after all?
