Luke vs Vader Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi
Students Set To Vote On Admiral Ackbar Ole Miss Mascot Campaign
We cant repel goofiness of this magnitude
Students at Ole Miss, or the University of Mississippi, are taking part in a drive to elect a new mascot, and have chosen as one of the most popular candidates for the position the fictional character Admiral Ackbar, from the Star Wars films.(He was in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.) Admittedly, it looked really silly at first, but it does make a lot of sense once you learn a little more.George Lucas will probably want more than a payday loans worth in licensing fees, however.
He WAS, after all, the leader of the Rebel Alliance
For those of you who arent up to speed on the Original Trilogy, Admiral Ackbar is one the highest ranking figures in the Rebel Alliance, and helps lead the attack on the second Death Star. Long story short, they win Death Star/Emperor get blown up, Darth Vader dies (and so it goes), etc. His (this is all fiction, or perhapsfish-ction?) homeworld, according to Star Wars lore, is Mon Calamari - one wonders if cannibals on that planet dissect, bread, fry, and serve their victims with a spicy mayonnaise dip? But enough of that, back to the real world.
I find their lack of a mascot disturbing
Ole Miss sports teams are The Rebels, and the previous mascot had been called Colonel Reb, a Southern Gentleman type (resembles a young Colonel Sanders) that is presumably a plantation owner or something along those lines, that was removed due to controversy. One can see why it should have gone - for those that aren't in the know, Ole Miss was the first university to be integrated, and riots broke out when James Meredith was the first African American to enroll and attend, with National Guard escort. (The Governor of Mississippi himself tried to block him, and Meredith was attending on the GI Bill, which made the governor a racist AND unpatriotic. He was fined over $ 10,000 for his stunt, far more than a cash advance can cover.)
Since the removal of the previous mascot, Ole Miss students have been trying to fill the void with another mascot which would still be a Rebel, AND be non-offensiveand the Supreme Commander of the Rebel Alliance? There isn't anything more rebel than that!
It's A Trap!
I had to get that line in somewhere, and I hadn't thought of any way yet.How am I NOT supposed to make that joke?
Back to the point
The vote is starting to get close, and two questions remain if Admiral Ackbar IS elected the new mascot, will the school and alumni back it, and if so, what does (and this is the important part) George Lucas have to say about it? This should be interesting in any event. May the Force be with them.

Frequently Asked Questions...
How does Anakin Skywalker know how to become ghost in Return of the Jedi?
in star wars 3 yoda says he was in contact with qui-gon jin and was taught by him so he'd know how to become a ghost...thing. And yoda taught obi-wan but obi-wan never taught anakin or vader so how come anakin is seen at the end of the 6th film?
Answer:
The answer by "cookie cutter" is beyond wrong ... way beyond.
Becoming "one with the Force" is an ancient power of the Jedi that was forgotten somewhere in between the great Sith Wars 1030 years before the events of ep I and ep I itself. Qui-Gon had not mastered this power before he died so while he was able to bind his spirit to the Force he lost his physical form. Both Yoda and Obi-Wan did master the power before their deaths and were therefore able to become one with the Force in both "body" and "mind". Also, it wasn't Yoda who taught it to Obi-Wan ... it was Qui-Gon.
As for the how and/or why Anakin/Vader was able to do it without any formal instruction on how to use this ancient power ... it really hasn't been explained very well. All Lucas ever says is that since Anakin was the Chosen One and the most powerful Force user that ever existed it was something that he just knew ... didn't really know how he knew but he did.
Yeah I know, like most explanations from Lucas this one is very "thin" but I guess if it works for him it will have to work for us no matter how far fetched it seems.
May The Force Be With You ...
EDIT: To "Cookie Cutter": first of all "AOTC" is ep II not ep III
Second ... when Anakin makes his decision to join Palpatine as his apprentice, this scene is in EPISODE III, the "power" he tells him, and wrongly so because he doesn't even know how to do it himself, that he will teach him is how to keep people he loves from dying ... NOT to become one with the Force. Totally wrong all the way around.
